POLET -
The Heavyweight Champion in Outsize Solutions.
Polet Cargo Airlines, the leading air
cargo transportation specialist, once again demonstrated
the capability of its staff and efficiency the of its Antonov
124-100 aircraft when it successfully transported a 100
ton electrical generator from Pulkovo to Buryatia.
One of Polet’s
expert Loadmasters liaised with technical engineers from
the Buryatia hydroelectric power plant to design and build
the special equipment necessary to ensure the safe handling
of the generator for its all important transportation by
air in one of Polet’s AN-124-100 aircraft.
The transportation
of this heavy one-piece 100 ton generator started with a
road journey to Pulkovo airport in St Petersburg. At Pulkovo three heavy duty cranes
were required to lift the generator from the road transport
vehicle onto the unique heavyweight rail loading system
of Polet’s Antonov 124-100 aircraft. This unique 17
meter ‘railroad’ system allowed for the generator
to be positioned prior to winching inside the aircraft and
when unloading the system again helped position the generator
for offloading by three more heavy-duty cranes onto the
road transport for onward shipment to Buryatia.
The speed and efficiency
of Polet technical ground crew was greatly appreciated by
the client as the successful loading was completed in less
than 4 hours – 2 hours less than the estimated time.
Maxim Klouchine, Sales Manager for Polet’s commercial
office in Cyprus, commented “ It is a step forward
in increasing our expertise and reliability, the cargo like
this is AN-124-100’s job and that makes it unique”.
This charter is the second in a series of flights, the first
one took place back in 2001.
The success of this
operation demonstrated once again the professional attitude
and technical ability of all Polet staff and in particular
those involved directly in this project - the flight crew
and technical ground staff who make ‘on site’
critical decisions to meet transportation and handling time
scales.
Polet Cargo Airlines
continues to promote the unique capabilities of its Antonov
AN-124-100 freighter aircraft in the outsize air cargo transportation
marketplace. Its fleet of seven Antonov AN-124-100 aircraft,
with an eighth due to be ready for action early 2004, makes
it a heavyweight champion in the transportation of super-heavy
and outsize air cargo.
