Polet's Mission Impossible

On 22, November Director General of air company "Polet", the President of "Air launch" aerospace corporation Anatoly Karpov held a meeting with media correspondents on the remarkable event.

From 18 to 20, November, 2001 the First World Conference of Air Cargo Carriers was taking place in Luxembourg. The idea behind this gathering was industry crisis. It is likely that such meetings will be held annually as there are too many common problems, which need solutions.

The initiative in holding the conference belonged to the "Cargo News" paper and the International Air Cargo Association (TIACA). Over 150 participants took part in the forum including the Russian representatives from "Aeroflot", "Volga-Dnepr", and "Polet". The conference enjoyed an overwhelming success.

All the places were booked two weeks prior to its opening. Among the participants were also representatives of Canadian, American and Italian airports, which are largely involved in shipments.
"Polet" was a sponsor of this event as well as Cargo Lux, China Airlines, Boeing.
On the second day 19, November making a speech to the forum Anatoly Karpov informed the participants on the activities taken to create the new aviation and rocket complex "Air launch", which is going to both considerably decrease expenses for space launches and make them environmentally clean. It should be noted that western aviation world is constantly following the activities of the Russian cargo airlines and our experts could feel it daily during meetings with their foreign colleagues.

On the same day the representative of European transport Management Institute (UK) awarded Anatoly Karpov with a prize "Mission Impossible" for the outstanding efforts and excellent quality in transporting American spy plane (EP-3) from China to USA in June-July, 2001. Then A.S. Karpov answered correspondents' questions.

- Where did Polet's crews work for the last few months?
- We have performed a large program in Africa. There were operations to USA, Southeastern Asia.
- And have you been involved in Afghanistan transportation?
- At present, we are receiving inquiries. As you know, the military action is coming to an end, we are considering them.
- What is the advantage of "Air launch" over the American project "Pegas"?
- The main advantage is payload. "Pegas" is capable of carrying to orbit only 300 kg while our complex will take up to 3,5 tons.
